Denis Marier, artist
Nature and wildlife have fascinated Denis since childhood. This deep love for the natural world led him to become a naturopathic doctor, ecopsychologist, and wilderness therapy guide. Along the way, he also trained in Core Shamanism and has apprenticed with several Indigenous healers and elders as he re-discovered his own Anishnawbe lineage and deep connection to this land.
Denis uses various weight graphite in his detailed pencil drawings.
On his mother’s side, Denis is descended from the Ojibwe of the Greater Detroit/Southwestern Ontario. On his father’s side, his family name traces back to
one of the first 100 settling families in Canada, with his paternal great-great grandmother being descended from the Huron nation (now considered extinct). Although Denis identifies as a white ally, it is these epigenetic connections to his Indigenous DNA that have been pulling him back to creating drawings as medicine. He is literally “drawing medicine.”
Denis has four limited edition prints of his earlier drawings for sale, and has recently started accepting commissions for custom Spirit Animal/Totem Medicine Drawings. Each custom Spirit Animal/Totem Medicine Drawing is done with only the person who commissioned the original piece in mind. Each drawing is created by holding the energy and vibration of the commissioner in mind and spirit, producing truly vibrant, energetic healing pieces of art intended to pull the commissioner into full communion with their Spirit Animals and Guides. Every animal, whether mammal, fish, bird, insect, or mythical beast, holds medicine for the person who identifies in some way with that creature. This is the source of our individual medicine and reminds us of our unique way of showing up in our world.
With the aid of his sacred drum, Denis can journey with you and help you discover your power/spirit animals if you haven’t met them yet. His drawings are
infused with the spirit of that animal as they keep watch over you, and remind you of the special medicine you bring to this world.
